Author Interview & Giveaway – Naomi Miller

Join me as I help Naomi Miller celebrate the release of her first novel: Blueberry Cupcake Mystery.

Naomi has graciously agreed to answer a few questions for us – and I am sure you are all as excited to hear the answers as I am to share them with you.

Ruth: Naomi, why a cozy mystery? Why not an Amish suspense novel?

Naomi: I’m glad you asked that question, Ruth. As a matter of fact, I began writing an Amish suspense novel last year — and I think it’s a great story. But while I was working on it, I felt God was leading me to write a story that readers at any age could enjoy reading, leaving them with happy thoughts. So I put away the Amish suspense (for the moment) and began writing a new story — one that is chock full of family, friends, community, faith — still with a mystery, but a lighter touch.

Ruth: On the cover, there is a charming little ribbon that says Amish Sweet Shop Mysteries – am I correct in presuming this is the first of a series of books?

Naomi: Yes, I hope so. Before I had finished writing Blueberry Cupcake Mystery, ideas for a second book — and a third book — were already forming. I’m working hard to finish book two right now. The biggest question I’m facing right now is when to end the story. I’d rather each book be written so a reader can pick up any in the series and read it, without having to go back to a previous book to “catch up”.

Ruth: Will all of the books focus on Katie and her friends – or will you be writing about different towns and characters in each book?

Naomi: At the present, my plan is for all the books to focus on Katie and her friends. It’s possible they may be visiting other towns in subsequent stories.

Ruth: What inspired you to write this book series?

Naomi: As I mentioned above, I felt God leading me to write this series. There are so many books out now that depict Amish as vampires, zombies, etc. or even worse, in my opinion, easily swayed to turn from their beliefs. I want to show how Amish, Mennonite, Englischers and any others, such as a cranky Irishman, can not only work together, but they can — and do — get along well in the community, with the respect they all deserve.

Ruth: Will we ever have an opportunity to read an Amish suspense or perhaps even a different genre from you?

Naomi: Absolutely! While I want to devote more time to Katie and her friends at the moment, I’m in the process of packing up my home and I hope to be moved by the end of the year. Next year my Amish suspense novel will be added to my schedule . . . hopefully it’ll be published by the end of 2017.

I’ve also been approached by the wonderful folks at S&G Publishing about doing a crossover Amish fiction novel with another of their authors, JC Morrows, who writes inspirational dystopian/speculative fiction. JC and I have had several conversations — and it looks like we’ll be collaborating on a new story soon.

And don’t miss Christmas Cookie Mystery, which is scheduled to be released December 2016.
